Summary

This was super cute and STEAMY!!! I loved these two! I'm always a sucker for a bad boy and Jack being the head a criminal syndicate makes him that。 But gosh he was so cute with Justine。 This was just very enjoyable。 I will say it did drag just a little towards the end。 But still so delightful to listen to! I enjoyed the second book in this series, “Prince of Broadway” (I haven’t read the first yet) and I think it liked this one even better。 I love when the tough guy falls first and Jack became smitten with Justine early on。 Their banter was great, because she did not succumb to his charms。 Good sexy scenes。 It did have the tired “you’re too good for me so I need to say mean things to you and push you away “ trope at the end。 The tortured redemption, Jack drinking heavily, not eating or sleeping fo I enjoyed the second book in this series, “Prince of Broadway” (I haven’t read the first yet) and I think it liked this one even better。 I love when the tough guy falls first and Jack became smitten with Justine early on。 Their banter was great, because she did not succumb to his charms。 Good sexy scenes。 It did have the tired “you’re too good for me so I need to say mean things to you and push you away “ trope at the end。 The tortured redemption, Jack drinking heavily, not eating or sleeping for days because he’s sick over Justine, was so satisfying。 。。。more

A great ending to the series。 I really liked Justine and Jack。 Love how their relationship has them evaluating who they are and what they really want。 Both have to step way outside comfort zones to find their way to each other and their scenes are hot。 One thing that bothered me was how judgmental Florence was。 After the stuff she did in the previous book? It was in Mamie's character but it felt like Florence was twisted around for the role in this book。 Small quibble though。 I really enjoyed it A great ending to the series。 I really liked Justine and Jack。 Love how their relationship has them evaluating who they are and what they really want。 Both have to step way outside comfort zones to find their way to each other and their scenes are hot。 One thing that bothered me was how judgmental Florence was。 After the stuff she did in the previous book? The best of the series, or at least the one that elucidates a fantasy I find most appealing。

This was a genuine enemies-to-lovers, which was great to read。 They threw barbs at each other and fell in love。

I really think this was my favorite of the series! Justine and Jack were steamy together。 They loved the other even when they didn't think that was what they needed in their life。 I do have to say that I love that Jack was unrepentant about his life and how it wasn't always on the up and up。 A great ending to a wonderful series :) I really think this was my favorite of the series! Jack and Justine are great together and i think their chemistry is fantastic。 but parts of the book dragged and the resolution at the end was a little unsatisfying。 overall though, i did have a good time。

This series was pretty wild。 I think the biggest issue is that every single book/sister ended up with the exact same type of man and had the exact same conflict with their parents/family not supporting the relationship。 It was like reading the same book three times。 Except each time it progressively got worse because it became hypocritical and redundant。 Like do you really expect me to believe that Duncan Green is gonna be able to split hairs between each of these men because of some really thin This series was pretty wild。 I think the biggest issue is that every single book/sister ended up with the exact same type of man and had the exact same conflict with their parents/family not supporting the relationship。 It was like reading the same book three times。 Except each time it progressively got worse because it became hypocritical and redundant。 Like do you really expect me to believe that Duncan Green is gonna be able to split hairs between each of these men because of some really thin moral lines between running a casino and having a revenge plot on her father vs being a notorious criminal kingpin? Like we are actually pretending the casino owner with a desire to ruin him is better than the guy donating 50 grand to charity and volunteering at soup kitchens?I really couldn't stand the evolution of the sister relationships in the series。 With each book it progressively got worse and by this book, I was so angry with Mamie and Florence I couldn't even remember liking them。 Which is probably why I like Justine the best, which was super unexpected。 This was definitely my favorite couple, but the plot was pretty lacking for me and I didn't really feel the passion there。 Ultimately this series was no where near the amazingness of the Fifth Avenue Rebels series。 And I have to say that some of the big differences I noticed at the end was that throughout this entire series there was not a single friend side character for any of the girls which was kind of unusual。 There were no society events either。 So that may be something that would draw you to this series because it was quite different from other historical series, even the other by this same author in the same time period。 。。。more

5+++++ This is an absolute gem!!!! I've read plenty historical romances, and this book belongs in the top tier。 Joanna Shupe is an amazing storyteller, and her writing has me captivated from the very beginning。 Jack and Justine's character, banter, and romance only serve as the cherry on top。 Will be rereading this multiple times。 5+++++ This is an absolute gem!!!! This was such a fun one! Historical romance is one of my favorite genres, but the books I’ve chosen always focus on England or Scotland。 This is the first time I read one that took place in New York City。 The story involved the youngest girl from a prestigious family who winds up connected and involved with a criminal mastermind in New York。 She searches for the good in him and his eyes are opened to the good in others。 They have very strong chemistry and definitely hot romance。 This is the firs This was such a fun one! A nice quick read。 Cannot believe this guy casually had a bowling alley in the basement of his house and it just wasn't brought up more。 What kind a psychopath makes his friend clean up the pins for him as he and his date fling balls towards him in his private home bowling alley。Anyway I really enjoyed it。 A nice quick read。 Cannot believe this guy casually had a bowling alley in the basement of his house and it just wasn't brought up more。 What kind a psychopath makes his friend clean up the pins for him as he and his date fling balls towards him in his private home bowling alley。Anyway I really enjoyed it。 。。。more

I absolutely adore Jack Mulligan。 This romance scratched a much needed itch for me。 We have a do-gooder heroine and an outright villain as a hero and I adored it。 Jack is very much a "I'm only soft for you hero。" An absolutely addictive read。 I absolutely adore Jack Mulligan。 This romance scratched a much needed itch for me。 We have a do-gooder heroine and an outright villain as a hero and I adored it。 Jack is very much a "I'm only soft for you hero。" An absolutely addictive read。 。。。more

Maybe 3。5It was easy to read, well paced, loved the shifting POV and the characters were well described。。。。but。。。。there was something about the relationship between the h and H that I didn't like。 There was an imbalance to it。 I understand that Justine was a feminist。。。but there was a lack of compromise to her character that seemed to make me feel like the hero was less understoood, that his concerns/ opinions were less valued。 Maybe 3。5It was easy to read, well paced, loved the shifting POV and the characters were well described。。。。but。。。。there was something about the relationship between the h and H that I didn't like。 There was an imbalance to it。 I understand that Justine was a feminist。。。but there was a lack of compromise to her character that seemed to make me feel like the hero was less understoood, that his concerns/ opinions were less valued。 。。。more

The Devil of Downtown: ★ ★ ★ 。 5 Joanna Shupe (Uptown Girls, #3) “I want you in my life, by my side。 You are more important to me than anything else in the world and I’ll do whatever it takes to keep you。”The romance was sweet & I loved Jack because he was protective and honestly kind of boy obsessed right off the bat。 Bad boy to the bone but had a heart of pure gold, to be honest。 I liked how independent Justine was and how much she wanted to help people。 I found it really endearing and brave o The Devil of Downtown: ★ ★ ★ 。 5 Joanna Shupe (Uptown Girls, #3) “I want you in my life, by my side。 You are more important to me than anything else in the world and I’ll do whatever it takes to keep you。”The romance was sweet & I loved Jack because he was protective and honestly kind of boy obsessed right off the bat。 Bad boy to the bone but had a heart of pure gold, to be honest。 I liked how independent Justine was and how much she wanted to help people。 I found it really endearing and brave of her, not to mention selfless。 But the plot was… messy。 Too convoluted for my taste。 And the third act conflict made me want to rip my hair out。 Plus her sisters? Hated them。 They kind of redeemed themselves at the end but just by a smidge。 Joanna Shupe’s writing—I’ve realized—isn’t the typical Historical Romance writing。 It feels much more contemporary than one would expect, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing but just something to keep in mind if you chose to read her books。 Really, I needed something to tide me over until January, when The Duke Gets Even is releasing。 It’s already my most anticipated read of 2023。 Give me Nellie & Lockwood right now please。 。。。more

I was a bit disappointed in this book。 I was really excited to see Mulligan and Justine as they were great in the earlier instalments of the series, but I found Justine to be a bit of a caricature of a ‘serious’ woman, and I hated how there was such an emphasis on her being plain。 Jack’s reaction to her at first was also quite off-putting。 I did enjoy the social justice element and the plot was interesting。 Overall something just felt off with their relationship and I never quite believed it (as I was a bit disappointed in this book。 I was really excited to see Mulligan and Justine as they were great in the earlier instalments of the series, but I found Justine to be a bit of a caricature of a ‘serious’ woman, and I hated how there was such an emphasis on her being plain。 Jack’s reaction to her at first was also quite off-putting。 I did enjoy the social justice element and the plot was interesting。 Overall something just felt off with their relationship and I never quite believed it (as always, very spicy though 🔥🔥) 。。。more

My first Joanna Shupe book。 The writing style is competent but pedestrian—the author likes to simply tell the reader what the characters are experiencing instead of that messy business of having the reader experience through the characters。 Despite the mention of corsets and broughams, the characters thoughts and language are lifted straight from the 21st century。 The love relationship is really just a sex relationship, and this all comes to an overly dramatic head when the uptown heroine leads My first Joanna Shupe book。 The writing style is competent but pedestrian—the author likes to simply tell the reader what the characters are experiencing instead of that messy business of having the reader experience through the characters。 Despite the mention of corsets and broughams, the characters thoughts and language are lifted straight from the 21st century。 The love relationship is really just a sex relationship, and this all comes to an overly dramatic head when the uptown heroine leads a gang into battle against a rival gang。 Totally forgettable。 。。。more
